Overcoming the Spirit of Weariness

by Pastor Olori Olawale

Dear Reader,

You are welcome into God’s presence in Jesus’ name!  Today, I want to share with you “Overcoming the Spirit of weariness!”

Weariness or discouragement is a spirit from the pit of hell that Satan is planting in the lives of believers just to deprive the manifestation of God’s promises in their lives. Spirit of weariness will make you feel as if God had forgotten or abandoned you. It makes you feel helpless and hopeless. You wonder if God really loves you. It will remind you of how long you have been waiting for God to fulfill HIS words in your live. It will tell you thousands of reasons why your case is peculiar and might be too difficult to be perfected. It will make you feel that your life or case is worst and messed up beyond repair. It will even accuse you and make you feel responsible for the situations because of what you might have done in the past simply because he is the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10) and had forgotten that once a man is in Christ he is a new creature and all old things had passed away, even the old sins (2Chr. 5:17). Once you are forgiven, the sins are forgotten and all the ordinances against you are blotted out.

First and foremost, by feeling discouraged, we are telling God that he is unfaithful and unjust to perform His Words. God says, unless the covenants of day and night be broken, that is when what He had said concerning you will not come to past (Jeremiah 33: 20-21). He says heaven and earth may pass away but not a dot of His words will return void until it had done that which He sent it to do (Isaiah 55:11). As a believer, if what we are holding on to is God’s word and promise for us, we should be rest assured that he will perform it. Everyday that we wake up and see the light of the day, that is a sign that His promise for our lives is still very much active and will come to pass. He is more than able to perform what he has spoken because He magnifies His words more than His name.

Secondly, God can never forget you or abandon you. He says that mothers may forget their sucking babes but he will never forget you. He had engravened your name on His palms and your wall is continually before Him (Isaiah 49: 15-16). Every moment of your life, He is thinking about you. He is looking for a greater way to make it happen for you. Understand that whatever you are going through is a process and will eventually end up in your favor for He says, all things work together for good for those who love God. He will do it in a way that no one will have to share in His glory.

Also, when you start counting how long you’ve been holding on, by whose standard are you calculating? Is it by your standard or by God’s standard? Remember He says a day to Him is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like one day (2 Peter 3:8-9). So when you say you have been waiting on the Lord for ten years, what is the actual value of that period to God? Let us just stop counting days and just understand that He says the vision is for an appointed time, though it tarries, wait for it, it shall surely come to pass (Habakkuk 2: 3). Let us hold on to the promise until it happens for us.

To overcome this destructive spirit, you have to serve and worship the source and not the substance. When you seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness all other things will follow.  When you serve God no matter what, nothing moves you again. You know your times are in His hands. He will not mismanage your life. You will continue to rejoice in Him because you know that the thought He has for you is of good and not of evil to bring you to an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11). This joy alone will keep you going and cast the spirit of weariness out because you walk by faith and not by sight. Although everything around you may not look like it now, you know that the end result will be in your favor. He can never fail.

Also, by recalling the past testimonies of what the Lord had done in your life, you will forever be encouraged and not be weary. If the Lord had come through for you in any way in the pass, then He will come through for you again and again. When David was faced with Goliath, he remembered how the Lord had delivered him from the bear and Lion. He was rest assured that the same God is able to deliver him from Goliath. This gave him courage to go against Goliath and became victorious despite the physical appearances and numerous acts of discouragement by everyone else.

As believers, we need to cultivate the act of encouraging ourselves in the Lord the same way David did and recovered all (1Samuel 30:6). If He had continued to weep like everyone else, he would have lost everything to the enemy. No matter what you are going through, get up and encourage yourself in the Lord. Don’t throw in the towel. You shall recover all in the name of Jesus. Stop allowing Satan to steal your joy in the Lord, for with joy shall you draw out of the well of salvation.

In order to overcome the spirit of weariness, you must take the first step by inviting the Lord Jesus into your life. Pray this simple prayer “Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me for my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan so that I may serve the living God. I accept You as my Lord and Savior. Make me a child of God today. Thank you for accepting me into your kingdom
If you have prayed this prayer then you have made the single most important decision of your lifetime.

“May God bless you until I come your way next time!”
